Anniversary

Wedding picture"Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me!" 1 Samuel 25:32

Nineteen years ago today, God began a work.

For 25 years (plus or minus) He had prepared us for each other. (Jon was plus, I was minus.)

In those few moments, we sealed an eternal covenant.

Today we mark the first nineteen years.

I do. I will.

Love you.

Working with Daddy

(This is Jon's observation that I'm 'stealing' today.)

Some many times when my husband, Jon, is working, in the yard, in the garden, or making breakfast, our youngest shows up and asks to help. That in itself is not so remarkable. But occasionally, Rachel will hang around, watch what he's doing and then wordlessly join in. She watches her daddy long enough to see what he's doing- the task, the goal, the method, and she copies that.

This is the way God wants us to work with Him. He left off the rules and regulations for a grace-based life of walking by faith- We watch our Father, see where He's working and what His purposes are, and we copy that, laboring beside Him.

However, I think most times we work more like our older kids. For them, the job either has to be on their list or we have to ask them. They work independently, and usually it's with the expectation of payment. Sometimes we have to "encourage" them to complete their tasks, or reinstruct them on our standards.

Jesus talked about the faith of children and in context He meant that saving faith, but we need that child-like faith for day-to-day living, too. I need a healthy dose of unashamed dependence and delighted intimacy my littlest one has. I also need that awareness and desire to work with my Daddy.

Happy Birthday Jon!

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Psalm 37:2

I am so thankful that God ordered the steps of this good man in my direction.

Happy Birthday to my husband!

Update: New stuff

Just quick update post:

  • The blog has a new look. I'd love to hear your comments. I think it's a little easier on the eyes. Not sure how I feel about the pink, though ;)
  • The April newsletter went out Wednesday. If you didn't get one, you can read it here. (Sign up in that blue box on the site, or send me a note, if you'd like to get the next one.)
  • You can now receive these posts by email. That's what the other email box is for on the left is for. (Or you can sign up here.)

On a personal note: Sunday is my anniversary. Jon and I married eighteen years ago. It has gone by SO fast. Jon figured out in 2000 that if you add the numbers for the date of our anniversary, you get the number of years we've been married. (April 4, 2010 means 4+4+10=18) Runs ten-ish miles every Saturday morning, even when its frigid cold. He has a deep, life-governing faith. He is a tremendous father and example. I cannot communicate what he means to me and he becomes more precious to me each passing day. What a gift God gave me in Jon!

Now I'm taking the rest of this weekend off!

Celebrate the hope and joy that is the resurrection. Remember, not matter how things look right now… Sunday's coming!
