Something to think about as you start a new week

Monday Meditations are quick posts designed to get you thinking about God. They provide a fresh perspective as you jump into your routine.

Why Obey?

By Paula Wiseman

stone bridgeLord I want to obey You,
not just when others are watching.

Lord, I want to obey You,
not just for the hope of a reward.

Lord, I want to obey You,
not just out of a sense of duty.

I want to obey You

out of love,

out of a genuine desire to honor and glorify You.

I want to obey with a pure heart.

Let my heart be blameless regarding Your statutes, that I might not be ashamed. Psalm 119:80

Hoping in the Promises

By Paula Wiseman

Remember Your word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope. Psalm 119:49

at the dockGod, You are the only one who has the power to bring Your promises to pass. If I make a promise, I have the best intentions of keeping it, but I can't control everything. When I tell my son I'll pick him up after school, I'm assuming the car will start, that everyone will be healthy, that no other circumstance will intervene.

There is nothing beyond Your control, and therefore nothing can prevent You from keeping Your promises. There are no circumstances You fail to foresee. There is no individual that hinders You. You make promises with perfect knowledge.

When promises made to me have failed or been broken repeatedly, I give up hope.

Your sure word CAUSES hope.

I depend on that.

Foolish Desires

By Paula Wiseman

Foolish Desires title graphic

Take away my foolish desires, and let me find life by walking with you. Psalm 119:37 (CEV)

There are so many things demanding a place on my schedule, vying for my attention. Don’t let me waste Your gift of time with things that don’t honor You, things that don’t have lasting value.

Like a child, I want everything I see. Take away my foolish desires.

Let me find life, contentment, satisfaction by walking with You.

Let me achieve that Edenic communion You always intended for us to have with You.

Let nothing come between.

Understanding

By Paula Wiseman

WeavingMake me understand the way of Your precepts; so shall I meditate on Your wonderful works. Psalm 119:27 NKJV

I want to understand how it all fits together,
how Your miracles show Your character,
how the things You do reveal who You are.
Not that You owe me.

Help me see both the big picture
and the threads that run through it all.

(On Mondays, I thought I'd start sharing some prayers from my notebooks, things that touched my heart while studying. An earlier post, Not Like Water led me this direction. I'd be glad for your comments.)
