Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
hear my humble cry;
while on others thou art calling,
do not pass me by.
Let me at thy throne of mercy
find a sweet relief;
kneeling there in deep contrition,
help my unbelief.
Trusting only in thy merit,
would I seek thy face;
heal my wounded, broken spirit,
save me by thy grace.
Thou the spring of all my comfort,
more than life to me,
whom have I on earth beside thee?
Whom in heaven but thee?
Refrain:
Savior, Savior,
hear my humble cry;
while on others thou art calling,
do not pass me by.
Fanny Crosby, 1868
Read 1 Chronicles 17:16-27
(This is another hymn that might be passed over because it primarily speaks of a salvation experience. But I doubt any of us have “arrived” yet. Don’t we still experience days of needing His mercy, seeking His face, and longing to hear His voice? Yes. It would be worth pausing at the spring of all our comfort. Take a few moments for that even now.)
Here’s another great hymn: Jesus, Lover of My Soul
