Take the name of Jesus with you,
Child of sorrow and of woe;
It will joy and comfort give you,
Take it then where’er you go.
Take the name of Jesus ever
As a shield from ev’ry snare;
When temptations round you gather,
Breathe that holy name in prayer.
Oh, the precious name of Jesus!
How it thrills our souls with joy,
When His loving arms receive us
And His songs our tongues employ.
At the name of Jesus bowing,
Falling prostrate at His feet,
King of kings in heav’n we’ll crown Him
When our journey is complete.
Chorus:
Precious name, oh how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of heav’n;
Precious name, oh how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of heav’n;

(The name of Jesus. The name above all names. Not only does it convey the majesty due Him for His work of salvation, but the fact that we know it, that we can use it freely, shows the intimacy and access we enjoy. Or should enjoy. As Christmas approaches, take a moment to consider those names. Immanuel – I love that one. Wonderful. Counselor. The Mighty God. The Everlasting Father. The Prince of Peace. Savior. Spend some quiet time in the presence of the One who called you by name.)
