Video Q&A: When Will Resolute Be Out?

By Paula

The not exact transcript:

So when is Resolute coming out? I don’t know. But I will tell you what I do know. It’s been at the editor’s since mid-March. That’s typically a four to six week process so hopefully that part is getting close to done. After that it will take me anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to make all the corrections and last-minute tweaks and adjustments and do the final read through. After that, it goes to interior layout and design which is another few weeks. After I approve the interior, the book goes into production and two or three weeks after that, I’ll have an actual paperback copy in my hand.

If you’ve been counting the weeks, that puts us into June sometime. As it gets closer I can give you a more accurate idea of the release date. In the meantime, I’ll do my best to keep you updated through Facebook, blog posts and newsletters.

As always, feel free to email your questions to me.

In the meantime even though the Resolute site is under construction, there are preview chapters there.

Video Q&A: How long does it take to write a book?

By Paula

The not so exact transcript:

Another question I get asked pretty often is, ‘how long does it take to write a book?’  That’s a tough question to answer because I never work on just one book from start to finish. Usually what I do is draft a book, then set it aside and go to work on a second book. When the second book is drafted, I go back and edit the first one. After the edits are finished, I’ll set it aside again and draft a third book. After that draft is finished, I’ll come back and do the final edits on the first book.

When it’s all said done, it really takes about eighteen months to put a book together. Take that into consideration when you sit down and finish it in six hours. That’s eighteen months of labor.

If you have a question you’d like me to answer email me. The address is paula at paulawiseman dot com.

Thanks!

Video Q&A on Resolute

By Paula

https://www.paulawiseman.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Video-answer-1-Why-Doug-Alzheimers.mp4

This is a not-exact transcript.

I got a great question from a reader and wanted to address it in a quick video.

The question was “Why did I give Doug Bolling Alzheimer’s disease?”

I’m hard at work on Resolute, the third book in the Foundations series, and if you’ve read any of the previews, you know that book opens with Doug getting the diagnosis. So why would I do that? Especially to him!

The truth is bad things make for better stories. While we like for things to click along in real life, we’d rather read about someone else’s dire troubles. Also, I like to stories where the characters’ faith and ideas about God are challenged. Alzheimer’s presents a unique opportunity to do that not only with Doug but with the members of his family.

Second, Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease and the incidence is on the rise in this country. I wanted to raise awareness by dealing with it in a book.

Third, why Doug? I love Doug. Honestly, he’s my favorite character. So by using a character we already know and love, one we already have some history with, it heightens the emotional impact of the story.

If you have questions feel free to email me and I’ll do my best to answer them in a future video.
