In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10 (ESV)
God loved us … God loved me.
When I was far off.
Rebellious.
His enemy.
And it wasn’t just lip service. He acted on that. He sent His only son to die.
I have an only son. (I have two daughters, too.) But I couldn’t order my son’s death.
Not for my enemies. Not for my friends, either. Not even for my other children.
But God …
We hear every week that God loves us, that Jesus died for our sins. The familiarity with it shouldn’t detract from the wonder, or from the reality.
He did what He alone could do.
