Only a step to Jesus!
Then why not take it now?
Come, and thy sin confessing,
To him, thy Saviour bow.
Only a step to Jesus!
Believe, and thou shalt live;
Lovingly now he’s waiting
And ready to forgive.
Only a step to Jesus!
A step from sin to grace;
What has thy heart decided?
The moments fly apace.
Only a step to Jesus!
O why not come and say:
Gladly to thee, my Saviour,
I give myself away!
Refrain:
Only a step, only a step!
Come, he waits for thee;
Come, and thy sin confessing,
Thou shalt receive a blessing,
Do not reject the mercy he freely offers thee!
Fanny Crosby, 1875
Read Hebrews 3:7-12
(Fanny Crosby’s hymn is primarily aimed at those who need to believe on Jesus for the first time. However, the reality is, even as believers, we often need forgiveness and mercy because we fail to live up to God’s holy standards. Jesus is ready and willing to give that forgiveness. We need to be just as ready to receive it. Remember the warning given by the writer of Hebrews– “Don’t harden your hearts.” Don’t let pride, or fear, or shame, or anything else keep you from making a move.)
