“Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” declares the LORD. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 23:23
Our house in Ohio sits nestled in a little valley, miles from town (and cell phone signals). One of my favorite things to do when we’re there is to take a few minutes to sit out on the porch steps and look at the stars. The Milky Way is visible. If you know where to look, it’s easy to spot planets. Sometimes you can see other galaxies, even without binoculars. If you watch, you can pick out satellites tracking overhead. I can usually count on spotting a meteor or two as well.
So why don’t I see these things from home?
One reason, I don’t look for them.
Second, there are too many lights around town. Sure, we can see some stars, or even a planet, and the occasional shooting star, but it’s much, much easier in the country.
We are always in the presence of Almighty God. There are times when it’s more obvious, when we are more aware, when we seek it out and relish it. There are other times when distractions, problems, schedules, or commitments blind us. There are still other times when we just don’t care to look.
Thankfully, God’s presence doesn’t depend on my desire for it, or even my awareness of it. It is guaranteed by His promise to us.

I love that last line: “Thankfully, God’s presence doesn’t depend on my desire for it, or even my awareness of it. It is *guaranteed* by His promise to us.” I added emphasis, of course, but that is so powerful! It is so encouraging, too, to know that He is there always. Great comparison, too, because that applies to me so much. Great post!
