What more was there to do for my vineyard, that I have not done in it? When I looked for it to yield grapes, why did it yield wild grapes? Isaiah 5:4
Isaiah tells a parable of a vineyard that has been exquisitely cared for.
No effort was spared.
Stones were cleared.
The best vines planted.
A watchtower was even constructed for protection.
And a vat was hewn out to receive the wine at the harvest.
All that was left was the sweet anticipation.
But at the harvest
There were only wild grapes.
Imposters.
Sour.
Useless.
Like the vineyard, like the nation of Israel
We have been exquisitely favored with God’s mercy and grace.
He has planted us so that we can bear fruit.
What fruit will He find?
Wild grapes? Or good grapes?
Sour, useless fruit?
Or a yield of thirty, sixty or a hundredfold?
