And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. Luke 2:18
We don’t marvel much any more. We’ve seen men walk on the moon. We’ve seen medical miracles that bring the dead back to life. We see and hear people a world away in an instant. The wisdom of several millenia and the newest technology are just a Google search away.
We’ve seen tragedy and disaster. We’ve seen courage and triumph. We’re hard to impress.
Marveled means to become filled with surprise, wonder or amazed curiosity.
Everyone connected with the Christmas story marveled.
People marveled at Zacharias’s silence, at his lengthy stay inside the Temple, at his choice of name for his son, John.
Elizabeth. Mary. Joseph. Shepherds.
Simeon marveled to see Israel’s deliverer with his own eyes.
We have been given an even greater, more wonderful gift than Simeon.
That very same Jesus, the One they marveled to see His coming …
He has chosen to live in our hearts. He calls us His own.
If that doesn’t cause us to marvel … I’m not sure what will.
I will praise You,
For You have answered me,
And have become my salvation…
This was the Lord’s doing;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
Psalm 118:21,23
